Silk Care
A Kanjivaram is made to be cherished for years, and with thoughtful care, it will continue to retain its beauty over time.
Storage
- Every Idha saree comes with a cotton storage bag. We recommend storing your saree in it when not in use, allowing the silk to breathe while protecting it from dust and light.
- Store in a cool, dry wardrobe away from moisture and damp spaces.
- Refold the saree every few months to prevent permanent creases, especially along the zari.
- Use moisture absorbers and suitable insect repellents in your wardrobe to help protect your silk sarees during storage.
Cleaning
- Dry clean only to preserve the richness, texture, and lustre of the silk.
- Avoid machine washing, hand washing, or soaking the saree in water.
- For stubborn stains, seek professional dry-cleaning assistance. Do not attempt to remove stains at home.
Wear & Handling
- Avoid direct contact with perfumes, deodorants, hairsprays, and other cosmetics, as they may stain or damage the silk.
- Handle delicate silk and zari areas with care to prevent snagging or damage.
- Avoid hanging the saree for extended periods, as the weight may stretch the fabric.
Drying & Ironing
- If the saree becomes slightly damp, allow it to air dry naturally in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight while drying or storing.
- Iron on the reverse side using a low heat setting or steam gently with a protective cotton cloth placed between the iron and the saree.
With proper care, an authentic Kanjivaram can be enjoyed for generations.
